The market square has been designed as the historical, topographical
and spacial centre of Anklam's Old Town. The spacious and generous
spatial situation has been emphasized by flanking tree plantings.
Through means of contemporary design the city's centre is being
re-established.
Visually and functionally linking the "Lilienthalcenter"
and town hall, the central square is designed as a serene space.
Right in the centre of town a space for relaxation and tranquillity
is being established. In the eastern part of the square the tree
canopy offers shade and is creating a visual green axis across "Peenstrasse"
right up to "Nikolaikirche" and river Peene.
The existing water feature has been relocated to the square's eastern
part and was modified in regard to design and edging. The "Steinwasser"
is creating an urban, multifunctional waterscape, determining the
tree canopy's atmospheric effect.
