The
public open space of the City of Dresden is currently characterized
by a heterogeneous use of surface materials, site furniture and
design standards. Like in many other cities an incredible diversification
of site elements has been taking place, creating negative visual
impact on the city's image. In order to avoid further development
towards exchangeability and facelessness, fundamental design guidelines
are being developed. The city's qualities are revealed and emphasized
according to the site's specifics.
In order to give these qualities a systematic framework chronological
and/ or spatially homogeneous entities are analysed (e.g. "Gründerzeit",
Quarter "Äussere Neustadt", etc.) and congregated
into typological groups using example areas for easy reference.
