Chemnitz Kappelbach Green corridor
Client: Stadtverwaltung Chemnitz, Grünflächenamt
Area: 7 ha
  in progress

The goal is to create a continuous and attractive pedestrian and bicycle connection towards the city centre and hence a potential for urban ecology and creativity. The green spaces are implemented as lawn and meadow areas featuring informal tree clusters. Benches along the way are an invitation to pause and offer spaces for regeneration within the city.
Along a 1600 m stretch the Kappelbach (Kappel Stream) is running through the site and meets the Chemnitzfluss (River Chemnitz). The Chemnitzfluss is representing an important connection within the planned green corridor. Within the different areas it will be redesigned according to the water's characteristics and improved regarding water management aspects. The newly designed widenings are being designed in order to create a "close to nature" condition with characteristic parameters regarding aquatic ecology.
