Through successive flooding of former surface
coal mining sites in southern Leipzig, an entirely new lakeland is
developing. On it's south-western shoreline, called the Gruna Peninsula,
the "Störmthaler See" (lake Störmthal) is offering
ideal conditions for sports and recreation. Here a water sports centre
for the Saxon Canoe Association including an olympic-size regatta-course
and service facilities will go under construction. Complementary,
a yacht and dinghy marina, a "lagoon village" with beach,
a camping site, a lakeside stage as well as all required parking spaces
will be implemented. During the proposed 2012 Olympics in Leipzig,
the canoe and rowing competitions would take place here. |
