Adjacent to the City of Pirna's market place, the square surrounding
the "Marienkirche" (Church of Mary), is a tranquil place
amidst a hectic city life.
Design and choice of materials reflect an ancient history. The northern
sandstone retaining wall has been renovated and partly complemented.
In-between the former graveyard's network of walkways a permeable
gravel surface has been established using site typical "Elbekies"
(pebbles from the river Elbe). This prevented a disturbance of the
sub grade due to extensive earthworks. Important details like manually
forged railings and downspouts, were reconstructed in accordance with
the originals.
Complementing the square, a decently designed bench is the only contemporary
element as a link to modern times.
