Redesign Halle/Saale Market Square
| Client: |
City of Halle/Saale |
| Area: |
2 ha |
| Completion: |
2006 |
On the occasion of the City of Halle's 1200 year anniversary its market
square has been fundamentally redesigned. Tramway tracks leading across
the square have been reorganized, surfacing and site furniture have
been renewed. Through a new conceptional approach the square has been
developed into a centre worthy of the city. Regarding the design,
inspiration has been drawn from themes formative to the cities development:
saltworks, rich history as city of art and culture and also everyday
market use.
In spring 2006 the square was given back to Halle's citizens after
two years of construction. Diggers, drills and other noisy machinery
are gone - every day life is returning. Marketers, passers-by and
tramways have repossessed the square and are effusing familiar sounds.
