Dresden Osterbergstreet Playground and School Gardens
Client: Sanierungsträger Pieschen
Area: 0,5 ha
Budget: 0,15 Mio EUR
Completion: 1998

Located in the centre of the Dresden's quarter Pieschen an outdoor space for various uses has been developed on a narrow lot.
In the front part a playground for toddlers and school-aged children was established. A "Sitzschlange" (snakelike bench) has been designed functioning as a necessary safeguarding measure towards the adjacent streetscape. The colourful wooden elements provide convenient seating and are a visual signal along the public sidewalk.
The school's garden in the rear of the site has been developed utilizing the existing elements.
Former sandstone fence pillars have been cut into slabs and were reused as paving material. The colourful wooden fence between the two areas is used as an enclosure for the school's garden and on the other hand is integrated into the playground's concept as a playable element. Flowering shrubs have been planted along the long sides of the site, visually accentuating the space.
