Located in the flood plain of the river Elbe, the Wostra recreation
area (a camping site, open air pool and beach) has been seriously
damaged by the flood in august 2002. In regard to an improved flood
protection a fundamental rearrangement of the site became necessary.
The new design combines beach and open air pool into one waterscape
in order to locate the pool outside of the flood plain. Formerly
the pool had been located on the camp site, which could now be extended
according to international standards. The open space minimizes impermeable
surfaces and earthworks in order to function as a large retention
area in the case of flooding.
