The site at the "Wupperbogen" (Wupper-meander) is designed
as a coherently developed central recreation area. The area's special
characteristics are being emphasized and developed into prominent
features.
The zoo's link to the open space system of the river Wupper is improved
through a better integration of the stadium's surroundings. The redesign
of "Hubertusallee" (Hubertus Avenue) is strengthening the
visual communication of the zoo's main entrance and the river Wupper.
The zoo's extension is making it possible to re-establish former scenic
correlations. In this regard the element water is playing a prominent
role.
According to the topography a continuous watercourse is being established
leading from the source at "Tigerland" (tiger's country)
across the "Pfauenwiese" (peacock meadow) towards the lake.
