Guangzhou, 2023
The Back Canal in Guangzhou is a tributary of the Pearl River that was previously used mainly as a transport route for the adjacent port and industrial businesses. With the relocation of these facilities, a new urban district is being created on the south side of the canal as a "Smart City". The open space concept develops a system of green infrastructure, which on the one hand structures the residential and office quarters, and on the other establishes a continuous green connection along the riverbank. The focus is on improved access to the water and the partial integration of relics of industrial history.
