Berlin-Kreuzberg, 2025年

In Berlin-Kreuzberg, the popular open space at the head of Lohmühleninsel has been upgraded in a climate-friendly manner. The southern part of the area has been unsealed and designed as a green hollow. This absorbs excess rainwater and allows it to seep away. Five newly planted golden alders provide shade and improve the microclimate.
In the northern area facing the street, the asphalt hills popular with skateboarders and roller skaters have been rebuilt. The lines of the asphalt abstractly reflect the water eddies and currents of the neighbouring lock and translate their movement into an artistic floor pattern.
The wooden seating and oak blocks overlooking the flood ditch have also been renewed and now invite visitors to linger once again. The redesigned area thus offers space for different needs and user groups: the rollable part is used for sporting activities and as a meeting place for young people, while the green areas invite visitors to engage in quieter activities such as picnicking or relaxing.
